Right in the middle of the New Zealand Summer is January and typical of New Zealand weather, it can be quite changeable. It is not unheard of to have rain and even the odd sprinkling of snow on the very high mountains in the south island. However, the temperature tends to be starting to warm up quite nicely.

The odd shower or two is not uncommon in January, and as you can see from the photograph above, there is a slight dusting of snow on the mountains. So again I stress the four seasons in a day, be prepared for all weathers. The temperatures tend to be comfortable throughout the month but a good chance of rain.
